The Village of Capocastello, in Mercogliano, is still dominated by the majestic ruins of the medieval castle, which dates back to the second half of the eleventh century., With reconstruction took place in the Angevin period.

It was destroyed by fire in 1656 and further damaged by an earthquake in 1732. The ruins of the castle is accessed freely.

To get to the medieval town center from the east, you cross the bridge that connects it to the farmhouse and take the pedestrian street Via Port of Saints. This work was carried out after the plague and the fire of 1656 and its arch depicts the patron of Mercogliano.
